Whether you do -- or do not -- have experience with stage acting, voice acting, sound recording or any related skill, this week-long group training and live performance experience will give you the tools you need to participate in this creative, dramatic audio format as well as give you the skills to succeed in audiobook narration, video game voice acting and more!

Phil Proctor
Co-founder of The Firesign Theatre & Voice Acting Legend
As one of the world's hardest working voice actors, you've heard Phil Proctor voice roles in numerous films, including Pixar's Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc. and Finding Nemo. Phil is a two-time Grammy Award nominee as a member of Firesign Theatre, famed for the immortal, "Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliers" and their timeless "Nick Danger" series, where Phil plays both Rocky Rococo and Nancy. He's been featured in several dozen popular video games and in countless animated movies and television shows.
J.M. DeMatteis
Comics & Graphic Novels Icon
Writer for most of the major DC and Marvel icons--including Justice League and Spider-Man (most notably the psychological thriller “Kraven’s Last Hunt"), DeMatteis' greatest praise has come for his groundbreaking personal works Blood: A Tale (soon to be a major motion picture), Brooklyn Dreams, The Stardust Kid, Abadazad, Imaginalis, and Moonshadow. He is also known for the animated series The Real Ghostbusters, Justice League Unlimited, and, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, as well as the 1980's Twilight Zone TV revival.
Dr. Will Anderson
Central Michigan University
2006 National Broadcasting Society scriptwriting contest winner and the 2003 and 2007 NATF Scriptwriting Competition winner, Will is also a 2008 National Parks Service Artist in Residence at the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site where he researched and wrote audio plays about President Hoover's life.
Robin Miles
Multi-Earphone & Audie-Winning Director/Actor
Robin has narrated 130 audio books and is the winner of multiple "Earphone" and "Audie" awards for titles like Half a Yellow Sun; Brother, I'm Dying; The Pirate's Daughter and Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters. She has voiced dialog and dubbing for dozens of films and television shows including Primary Colors, The Last Days of Disco, Law & Order, All My Children, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, New York Undercover, One Life to Live and National Geographic's Tales from the Wild.
Elaine Lee
Emmy-Nominated Actor & Starstruck Creator
One of the most innovative writers of comic books and animation as well as a graphic artist, playwright and Emmy-nominated actor, Elaine created the science fiction comedy Starstruck to deliberately inject tough women characters into the genre. Notably, Starstruck was just adapted into a critically acclaimed full-cast audio production after having been serialized as a comic within Heavy Metal magazine and as a standalone comic by Epic, Dark Horse, and now IDW Publishing. She co-wrote the animated series Troll Tales and Stevie Stardust and recently scripted a comics adaptation of the classic noir/television series Honey West for Moonstone Entertainment.
Our longtime instructors have worked with NPR, Jimi Hendrix, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and on animated films and video games. These masters will help teach you to write scripts, record and mix multi-track sound, act for audio, publish using the internet and create live sound effects; all in seminar-style classes, informal round-table discussions and definitely "hands on."
You'll participate at a level comfortable to you and meet other enthusiastic participants at all levels of experience. At the end of the week, you'll join in the fun of the big final performance, recorded live in front of a studio audience. You won't want to miss this experience! Neither will your friends!

At the Audio Theatre Workshop, both staff and participants work hard all week to make sure everyone has a quality experience and performance, but there's plenty of opportunity to relax after hours, too. Among other options are evenings at "The Yellow House" and an open-mic night that includes a performance by the event's outstanding guest artists!
About the Civic Center
This beautiful, modern facility features a large stage, comfortable seating for 450 audience members, plenty of backstage working area, free wireless internet, seven spacious meeting or seminar rooms, nearby dining choices and on-site refreshments.
