Sunrise School Summer Field Trip Invitation

Summer Field Trip Invitation

by Gallup Solar on Friday, July 8, 2011 at 12:42pm
You are all invited to join a caravan to <sunriseschool.org> next week, Wed., from 6 to 9 PM.

This has been organized by <gallupsolar.org> after hosting a presentation by the founder, Joe Pascal, at it's weekly community meeting.

The 'School for Ecological Living' could be a model to replicate to address the issues of: childhood obesity (kids want to try veggies they grow there), teen suicide (the local hospital sends in-patients there), Special Ed. student integration (the local sped institution sends children there for with behavior problems & job training), local culture loss (area families are re-learning how to spread & harvest Banana Yuccas), and other community building features you will likely see.

This is a free tour starting at Work in Beauty House, 113 E. Logan, at 6 PM, Wed., 7/13/11. Car pools will be formed on site & caravans to the Ft. Defiance area site leaving by 6:15 & returning between 9 & 10 PM. Hope to see you then & feel free to forward this to other interested community builders.

2011 Tour De Rez 9am July 17

2011 Tour De Rez

Dear TDR Riders,

Yaateeh from the Tour de Rez trail! It’s been an amazing 21st summer for the
Tour and we hope that the final stage of this year’s ride will be a great
one. We hope that you can come back to be a part of the finale.
On Saturday, July 16, we will be biking from Cottonwood to Ganado. We will be
camping at the rodeo grounds in Ganado. We will be away from camp for a
special dinner that evening but will be back by sundown if you want to camp
with us in Ganado. Please let me know if you plan to ride the final day or two
so that we can make sure we have enough bikes for all the riders.

We will travel from Ganado to Window Rock on Sunday, July 17. If you plan to
join us for this ride, please meet us at the rodeo grounds on Sunday morning.
We will depart Ganado by 10:00 a.m. for the ride up to the Summit and down to
Window Rock. We will enjoy a cook-out with the council delegates at the Navajo
Nation Fairgrounds, where we will also be camping.

The ride on Monday, July 18 is just two miles from the Fairgrounds to the
Council Chambers. After arriving at the Council, the group will be recognized
at the start of the summer session and will sit in on a short portion of the
session. In the afternoon, we will head over to the Navajo Zoo for a service
project, dinner and campout. You – and any of your family - are all welcome
to join us for this unique experience.

On Tuesday, July 19 we will have breakfast at the Zoo before finishing up the
project at and heading for home.

You can reach me at (928) 429-0345 if you have questions or would like to
talk. We hope that we will see some of you out on the trail over the next
couple weeks.

Health Action NM Statewide Meet Ups

"Working for affordable, accessible, accountable health care for all people living in New Mexico"

Dear Friends:
Beginning this week, HSD will begin holding public hearings across the state regarding the Medicaid Redesign Proposal. We encourage you to attend one of these hearings.

Under the health care reform law that Congress passed, Medicaid will be expanded to everyone under 138% of the federal poverty level, beginning in 2014. This means that all low-income people who experience homelessness or who are at high risk of homelessness - regardless of disability status or whether they have children - will able to obtain Medicaid beginning in 2014. But how easy Medicaid will be to access and what services and benefits it will cover will depend on what happens with this Medicaid redesign taking place right now. So its really important to make our voices heard on this. See below for the schedule of hearings and see attached for background information and talking points you can use at the hearings.
I am trying to get a sense of how many of our members will be attending one of these hearings. If plan to attend, please let me know by emailing me at lisa-h@nmceh.org.
