Summer Internship for Tribes and Tribal Organizations

CSAP Prevention Fellowship Program Graduate Student Summer Internship for
Tribes and Tribal Organizations

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Substance Abuse and
Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse
Prevention (CSAP) is accepting applications for the Prevention Fellowship
Program Summer Internship for graduate students.

The Summer Internship , a component of CSAP’s Prevention Fellowship Program,
invites qualified graduate students from schools of public, behavioral, and
allied health (including graduating seniors who have been accepted into such
graduate programs) to apply for a 10-week paid internship program in Strategic
Prevention Framework–Tribal Incentive Grant (SPF–TIG) locations and Tribal
Organizations throughout the United States. Interns will receive a stipend of
$15 per hour and will be required to work 40 hours per week for 10 weeks
between June 11 – August 17, 2012.

The Summer Internship will offer graduate students front-line experience in
the field of substance abuse prevention within SPF–TIG locations and other
Tribal Organizations. The Summer Internship will focus on providing interns
with Epidemiological and Evaluation training and hands-on experience. Summer
interns will learn new techniques, master best practices in the field, and
apply knowledge gained from their graduate school as well as cultural
experiences.

accepted from Monday, March 19, 2012 through Monday, May 7, 2012.

Applicants seeking selection into the internship program must meet the
following basic eligibility criteria:

1)       U.S. citizen or resident of the U.S. Territories or Pacific
Jurisdictions;

2)       enrollment in a graduate school for public, behavioral, or allied
health;

3)       obtain two letters of recommendation;

4)       submit a detailed response of not more than two pages stating why the
candidate should be selected for the fellowship internship and how selection
would support his or her career goals; and

5)       have a strong interest in the substance abuse prevention field.

Preference will be given to Native American or Alaskan Native graduate
students and those attending Tribal Colleges and Universities.
